World Humanitarian Day highlights hundreds of thousands of volunteers, professionals and people affected by crises who provide various services and emergency assistance to the most vulnerable and displaced people in the country
“Humanitarian needs rise to record levels across the country”
Humanitarian workers rely on collective effort and strengthening the humanitarian coalition in order to confront humanitarian needs, crises, disasters and economic decline
Here you find Nabil at five in the morning heading to his work at Haidra Charity Bakery, meeting his friends (Abdullah, Mazen, and Hashem) who work with him in the bakery… where their day begins by preparing the dough, arranging the bakery, heating the oven, preparing the bread, and distributing it to needy children, orphans, their families, and others
“.I’m happy in this place… standing side by side to help others”
Nabil Al-Shamiri, a father of four children, worked in many bakeries until he established his own bakery in 2014, but the war was stronger than him. As the war continued since March 2015, he lost his project and his dream due to his economic inability to provide the supplies for his bakery in these circumstances. Nabil stopped his dream and joined the workers and volunteers at the Haidara Foundation
Now, Nabil wakes up at the same time four years ago (the years he worked in the Bakery) without feeling tired or bored or complaining… His goal has become to serve the simple people who share with him the wounds and dreams of war and conflict
“This work has become much more than just a job, because through it I can help many families who are going through the same difficult circumstances that I suffered from
Mazen, a secondary school student, works in the bakery to provide his family with their needs and requirements after the war made him the supporter of his family
Mazen is the kind and beloved face of the bakery’s beneficiaries. You find everyone calling him by his name to inform him of their arrival. You find there is a family relationship between Haidra Bakery employees and the beneficiaries

Hashim Mahmoud, one of the bakery’s workers, adds that the bakery consumes 5 bags of flour (250 kilograms) per day, benefiting 600 families on a daily basis
Hashem Mahmoud is responsible for putting the bread into the oven and following up on it. He had his own story. He dropped university studies because he was unable to manage his financial affairs due to the high rent prices and economic deterioration
Hashem has been working since the establishment of the bakery. He knows almost all of the beneficiaries and has a kind heart. He helps all his colleagues with love and with his experience, he gives instructions to his colleagues. You will find that Abdullah, who is responsible for the distribution process and transporting the bread tables to the oven, is the most focused and active inside the bakery. Abdullah is also the breadwinner for his family and has been working for two and a half years non stop
Whenever and wherever people are in crisis, there are others to help them. It is a long journey that requires the efforts of thousands of brave people from all over the world. That’s why it’s important to recognize their work and thank all humanitarian workers for making the world a better place
In her speech on World Humanitarian Day, the head of the Haidara Foundation for Peace and Human Development (Suhair Al-Muaidi) praised the humanitarian efforts in the humanitarian field and added that humanitarian work is difficult by its nature, and our mission continues to be difficult. The workers at the Haidara Foundation for Peace and Human Development look forward to providing more humanitarian work to raise the level of development, move its wheel, and create sustainable development which benefits everyone
